Rate Con Checker
Paste a broker's rate confirmation before you sign. Get a grade, every costly clause flagged (fines, missing detention or TONU, lumper, setoff, net-45), and a ready-to-send fix request. Runs in your browser: nothing you paste is uploaded.
Rate con red flags, in plain English
Detention
Pay for waiting at a shipper or receiver past the free time (usually 2 hours). If the rate con has no detention rate, you may wait for free. Ask for a written hourly rate, when the clock starts, and how arrival is proven.
TONU (truck ordered, not used)
A flat fee when a broker cancels after you're dispatched or at the dock. "At broker discretion" means you may never see it. Ask for a fixed dollar amount.
Lumper fees
Fees paid to unloaders at the dock. Make sure the rate con says the broker reimburses them with a receipt, and how fast.
Fines, deductions and chargebacks
Penalties for late check calls, tracking gaps, missing paperwork or late delivery are often buried in the fine print and taken out of your pay. Know every dollar amount before you sign.
Setoff (offset) clauses
Lets a broker take money owed on one load from your pay on another, including disputed claims. It's a common way carriers lose pay they already earned.
Payment terms
Net 30 means you're paid 30 days after paperwork is received. Net 45 or longer squeezes cash flow, and quick-pay fees eat into the rate.
Broker identity and fraud
Check the MC/DOT number on FMCSA's public record before you haul. A broker emailing from a free address (Gmail, Yahoo) is a common fraud warning sign.
Questions
Is my rate confirmation uploaded anywhere?
No. The checker reads the text in your browser, and nothing you paste leaves your device. With Pro, a dropped PDF is also read in your browser.
How many free checks do I get?
Three a day in this browser. Pro costs $9 a month or $79 a year and gives unlimited checks, every flag explained, the fix-request message, PDF drop, your own minimums and saved history.
How do I cancel Pro?
Use "Manage subscription" in the tool at any time. You keep Pro until the end of the period you paid for.
Does a good grade mean the rate con is safe to sign?
No. The grade is a checklist of common costly clauses, not legal advice. Read the whole contract, and ask the broker in writing to fix anything you don't accept before you sign.
