Spare Key
Your plan for a lost phone — and for your family
If you lost your phone tonight, could you get back into your bank, email and WhatsApp? Find out in 10 minutes. Nothing leaves your phone.
How it works
- Tap the accounts that would hurt to lose. No logins, no passwords.
- Answer three taps each: how you sign in, your backup, and whether family could act.
- Get your Lockout Score, a fix list with official links, and a one-page Lost-Phone Sheet to print.
Spare Key is a planning checklist. It doesn't log in to anything, and it can't recover an account for you.
Which accounts would hurt to lose?
Tap each one you use. We only need the name. You'll never be asked to sign in.
Doing this with a parent? Sit together, let them hold their phone, and tap what they use. Never type their passwords.
Three taps for each account
Not sure? Pick "Not sure". You can change any answer later. Nothing here is a password.
Just tell us yes or no. Never type the PIN here.
Your fix list
Most important first. Each fix takes a few minutes. When you've done one, tap what you did and your score updates.
Your Lost-Phone Sheet
One page for the worst hour. Print it or save it as a PDF, and keep it away from your phone (a drawer at home, a family member's house).
For your family
If you died or couldn't speak for yourself, would your family know which accounts you have, who to call, and what you want? The Family Pack turns your plan into a letter they can use.
Fill in what helps. Leave out what doesn't. Places and names only: never passwords, PINs or codes.
People to contact first
Where my documents are (places, not numbers)
My wishes
Document expiry reminders
Add a passport, driving licence or ID card and its expiry date. Your reminders file gets a note 90 days before.
The For My Family letter is not a will or power of attorney. For legal questions about an estate, ask a qualified professional where you live.
Family Pack
- Up to 6 people in one plan file (set it up for your parents, partner or kids)
- The For My Family letter: who to call, where documents are, legacy settings, your wishes, subscriptions to cancel
- Wallet cards and a print-ready binder for every person
- Document expiry reminders (passport, licence, ID) in your calendar file
One payment. No subscription, no renewal, no trial to cancel. Your own plan, score, fix list, Lost-Phone Sheet, encrypted file and yearly reminder stay free. Checkout shows the final price in your currency before you pay.
Family Pack is on. Add people above, and fill in the letter.
Keep it, share it, check it once a year
Save on this device (encrypted)
Locked with a passphrase only you know. We can't read it or reset it, by design.
Plan file for another device or a trusted person
Downloads an encrypted file (family-plan.sparekey). Give the passphrase in person or in a separate message, never in the same email.
Yearly check reminder
A calendar file for your phone or computer: one review a year (plus document expiry dates with the Family Pack).
Share your score, not your accounts
Your score card shows only numbers. The invite link is a plain link with nothing about you in it.
Questions
Does it ask for my passwords?
No, never. Not passwords, PINs, codes or crypto recovery phrases. You tap how each account signs in and what backup it has. If you have backup codes, you write them on paper by hand. Text boxes refuse anything that looks like a code.
What is the Lockout Score?
How many of your key accounts you could get back into without this phone. An account counts as ready when you can sign in with just a password, or when it has a backup that doesn't need this phone: a recovery email, a second phone number, printed backup codes or a trusted contact. Text-message codes alone count as locked until your carrier gives you a new SIM. The family line counts accounts with a legacy setting turned on or a trusted contact.
Why are there no step-by-step instructions for each app?
Platform rules change, and we only show steps we have checked against the platform's official help page. Until we've checked a platform, its card links to its official help page instead, with general steps that work for most services. Each card shows when we last checked it.
Privacy
Your plan stays on this device. We never see your accounts, and we never ask for passwords or codes. If you save it, it's encrypted with a passphrase only you know. We can't read it or recover it. If you buy the Family Pack, Stripe processes the payment, and we keep only the record that you bought it.
This page makes no calls to other websites. It talks only to our own server: once, anonymously, to count that a plan was made (no names, no accounts, no answers), and to check or start a Family Pack purchase. Your language choice is remembered in this browser.
I forgot my passphrase
We can't reset it, by design: nobody, including us, can open the file without it. Start a new plan (it takes 10 minutes) and save it with a new passphrase.
Is the For My Family letter a will?
No. The For My Family letter is not a will or power of attorney. For legal questions about an estate, ask a qualified professional where you live. Rules about who may access a person's accounts after death differ by country and by service.
Official help pages
